A wide range of Electromagnetic Flow Meters available in the Philippines for all types of conductive fluid applications. The Magnetic Flowmeters can be configured with a local or remote display. The remote display is often a popular magmeter option, simply because the flowmeter electronics and housing are located in an area less prone to flooding. Magnetic Flowmeters are simple to install and operate and come in different sizes and options.
How do the magnetic meters work? How do the magnetic coils and flow electrodes actually play their part in measuring flow?
In short, a magnetic flux is produced by copper coils and voltage is measured through the flux by electrodes. As the flow increases, so does the induced voltage. It is easier to understand a magnetic flow meter’s working principle by using 3D Visualizations.
Video tutorial on the working principles of Magnetic Flow Meters
In the following video, an attempt has been made to simplify one of Faraday’s Laws in action by using animation. This is because we have been requested by university students to provide a way to initially grasp the concept before delving into theories which try to explain these ideas at the atomic level. Quite simply, we could imagine that the magnetic flux is like a kind wall and as the flow of minerals (minerals are like metals and are conductive) increases, it is easier for a voltage to pass through from one electrode to the other.
Faraday’s Law, is mathematically defined as,
E=K*B*D*V.*T.
The *Induced voltage is directly proportional to the velocity of the fluid moving through the magnetic field. This induced voltage is literally carried to the transmitter through the electrode circuit. *Induced voltage is produced as a result of electromagnetic induction.
Of course, someone could memorise the above explanation but still not understand how the magnetic flow meter works until it has been visualized. If university students are struggling with the concept, the video explaining how flow velocity is measured can be paused and rewound until they are encouraged that at least they have begun to grasp this method which has exploited a basic principle of electromagnetism.
There are two major components of a Magnetic Flowmeter. The Magmeter is a signal converter with basic components like magnet coils and electronics and traditional design is a body made up of a flange section and pipe. However, alternative Magnetic Flowmeter styles are wafer and insert Magnetic flow probes. Our company also supplies Magnetic Flow Meter Probes.
Magnetic Flow Meter Advantages
- Obstructionless Design
- Linear Output
- Corrosion resistant wetted parts
- High Accuracy
What do we mean that a Magnetic Flowmeter has an obstruction less design? If you choose to install a full-bore type of Magnetic Flow Meter, it means that there will be very little chance for blockage as opposed to an insert type Magnetic Flow Meter.
It is a well-known fact that Magnetic Flow Meters that use quality components are both accurate and repeatable in flow measurements. This is evidenced by the popularity of the meter. Simple to use, simple to set up and affordable in many applications.
