Positive-Displacement Flow Meter
These meters can be supplied with different accuracies, even up to ±0.1%. One of the great advantages of our PD meters is the fact that they are not affected by flows which pulsate. In addition, there is no upstream or downstream requirement necessary which is a downfall of other types of flow technologies.

PD meters (positive displacement meters are very common in the petroleum industry because they are exhibit a high accuracy and repeatability. It is also easy to prove them with a meter prover. Till today, they are still one of the most widely used technologies for custody transfer with crude oil, diesel, bunker fuel and fuel oil.
How do PD meters work? Principle of operation.
Each rotation corresponds to a fixed volume of fluid. Counting the revolutions totalizes volume, and the rate is proportional to flow.
The PD meter is a trusted technology in loading facilities, tank farms and oil depots. The principle of operation is simplistic and well understood by oil movements engineers. So how do PD meters work? Our most commonly offered model has two internal rotating parts inside a chamber.
The rotating parts have specially made gear teeth which are able to eliminate pulsation in the fluid stream. Total volume is measured accurately this way, and the design is fully self-lubricating. Even the presence of sand, wax or water does not compromise the measurement.
The meters are robust and can be used for long periods of time without maintenance or replacing. In addition, we have security features that ensure it is difficult to tamper with results. A perfect and trusted total volume device for Heavy oil, kerosene, gasoline and other petroleum products.
Optional High Temperature PD meters are available on request with additional cooling fins on the neck of the meter.

Calibration and accuracy. The PD meters are available in several different materials depending on the requirements of the fluid media. There are typically 3 accuracy options 0.1%, 0.2% and +/- 0.5%.
When ordering, the meters can be provided with strainers upstream of the measurement chamber if necessary.
